The newest sketch in this collection features Richard Lowell. It isn’t exactly clear when Richard came to Massachusetts, but he had certainly arrived by 1641/2 when his daughter was born in Newbury, MA. He had one or two wives, one of whom was named Margaret. See Williams’s commentary on page six for more details on Richard Lowell’s potential marriages. He had four children, one of whom, Samuel, is particularly well-documented due to disputes relating to a relationship with a woman to which he was not married. Richard died in 1682 in Newbury.

We have added a new volume to the searchable database of authenticated Mayflower Pilgrim genealogies, Mayflower Families Fifth Generation Descendants, 1700-1880:

This database is being constructed from the General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD) very well-known series of books Mayflower Families Through Five Generations: Descendants of the Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth, Mass., December 1620 which document the first generation of descendants of the Pilgrims. Through our partnership with GSMD, American Ancestors is delivering this database with a full index of the fifth-generation descendants, and their children, coupled with the page images for those people.
This database index includes birth, baptism, marriage, death, and deed records for these individuals, and where available, the names of parents and spouses.
This update is made possible by the invaluable efforts of our team of volunteers, including; Jane Kivlin, Nancy Borman, and David Anderson. We appreciate the work of all our volunteers. We have updated the indexes for three of our early databases of marriages and death notices from newspapers, that were originally only searchable by keywords. For the following three index-only databases you can now search by first name and last name, spouse names, dates and locations, and you can still do a Keyword search on the original text:
- New Canaan [CT] Era: Marriages and Deaths in New York State, 1868-1871
- New Hampshire: Marriage and Death Notices Published in Newspapers, 1848-1856
- Otsego County, NY: Newspaper Records, 1808-1831

We have added five new sketches to Western Massachusetts Families in 1790. This database focuses on families listed in the 1790 census in historic Berkshire and Hampshire counties, an area which includes parts of modern Franklin and Hampden counties as well. Sketches are submitted by NEHGS researchers and members and edited by Helen Schatvet Ullmann, CG, FASG. The following sketches comprise this update:

Bottom of Image and Transcript pages showing the database; citation, description, search tips, and help links
We are happy to deliver some new capabilities tooday to improve your search experience. The new capabilities include:
- Database information at bottom of Image and Transcript Pages – the database citation, description, search tips and help links are now displayed at the bottom of the page. This saves you the trouble of having to link off to a new page to get valuable contextual information when reviewing search results. So, don’t forget to page down!
- Streamlined headings for the Image and Transcript pages – with the database information now on the results page, we have been able to shrink the space at the top of the page by about an inch. This gives you more visibility on your results with less scrolling
- Print Search Results – When you are viewing your search results, you can now print the page out using the new button on the screen. The print includes only the actual search results, and just for the page you have currently selected.
The pictures below highlight where to look for these new capabilities.

We have updated an old database with new information! The new name of the database is: Guilford, CT: Deaths, 1883-1890.
To this database we have added First & Last Names, and complete dates. Previously the database only contained the year. This database includes death records for residents of Guilford, CT in the years 1883-1890. Alvin Bates Palmer kept these records during this period. In about 1880 Palmer moved his family from Cornwall to Guilford in New Haven County, where he lived the rest of his life. He is buried in the West Side Cemetery in Guilford. The original text may be accessed at the NEHGS Research Library. The call number is Mss A 2407
The database index includes, name, death date, and death location where available. We thank our volunteers for all their efforts in bringing this newly searchable data to you!

We’ve added St. Mary’s parish in Charlestown to our searchable collection of Archdiocese of Boston records, Massachusetts: Archdiocese of Boston Records, 1789-1900. St. Mary’s was the first parish established as a separate parish from the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, in 1828. The Boston Public Library has a Charlestown Flickr page with images of St. Mary’s interior, repairs to the roof, and a fire that happened in the building. Scroll about three quarters of the way down the page to view these images. This update adds over 44,000 new records and over 168,000 new names. We’ve added the following 10 volumes:
