St. Rose of Lima (Chelsea) Now Searchable

Today we’re announcing St. Rose of Lima (Chelsea), a new parish in Massachusetts: Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston Records, 1789-1900.  This update includes nine new volumes, over 2,800 new records, and over 119,000 new names.  The new volumes are listed below:

Just a small update on this project:

We are creating two databases. One is Massachusetts: Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston Records, 1789-1900.  This is searchable, and available to paying members.  It currently contains 128 volumes and 20 parishes.

The other database, Massachusetts: (Image-Only) Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston Records, 1789-1900 only contains browsable images; it is not indexed.  It is available to all members (guest and paying), for free.  It currently contains 285 volumes and 38 parishes.

37 new sketches in Early Vermont Settlers, 1700-1884

We’ve added thirty seven new sketches to Early Vermont Settlers, 1700-1884, and updated two existing sketches.  This database focuses on families that lived in Vermont prior to the end of the Revolutionary War, as identified in Donald Alan Smith’s thesis “Legacy of Dissent: Religion and Politics in Revolutionary Vermont 1749 to 1784” (Clark U., Ph.D., 1980).  As Scott Andrew Bartley undertakes this enormous project, he has been focusing on Windsor County.  Most of the heads of families added in this update came from Hartland, VT, with a few from Springfield.  The new sketches are listed below:

Today we’re announcing three new sketches to Western Massachusetts Families in 1790.  This database focuses on families listed in the 1790 census in historic Berkshire and Hampshire counties, an area which includes parts of modern Franklin and Hampden counties. 2 new sketches in Early New England Families, 1641-1700

Alicia Crane William’s study project, Early New England Families, 1641-1700 focuses on immigrants to New England , using Torrey’s New England Marriages as a guide.

Today we’re announcing two new sketches:

Daniel Bacon (m. 1639) Daniel Bacon was born in England around 1615.  He died in Newton in 1691.  He married Mary Read and had 10 children.  He was a tailor and a yeoman.

Thomas Hinckley (m.1641, 1660) Thomas Hinckley was from Hawkhurst in Kent, England.  His family settled Barnstable, where he lived the rest of his life.  He first married Mary Richards, then Mary [Smith] Glover after Mary Richards’s death.  He was the last governor of Plymouth Colony, serving for almost 10 years before it became part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.  He had seventeen children.

Norfolk County Probate File Papers Now Available

Today we’re announcing a new database, Norfolk County, MA: Probate File Papers, 1793-1877.  This database was created from digital images and index contributed to NEHGS by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Archives.  The collection contains the records of 20,904 Norfolk County probate cases filed between 1793 and 1877. The probate cases include wills, guardianships, administrations, and various other types of probate records except  adoptions, which are not public records in Massachusetts.  The cases range in length from one to over 2,500 pages, with a total of over 515,000 individual file papers.  If you have questions about using this collection, or our partnership with the Massachusetts Supreme Court Judicial Archives, be sure to watch our short video, How to Search Massachusetts Probate File Papers.

New Browsable Catholic Records from Marlborough and Stoneham

We’ve added 21 new volumes to Massachusetts: (Image Only) Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston Records, 1789-1900, from St. Mary (Marlborough) and St. Patrick (Stoneham).  St. Mary’s was the church attended by the French Canadian Catholics in Marlborough.  St. Patrick’s was established in 1868 to minister to Catholics living north of Boston.  The new volumes are listed below:
